About Us
A Journey of Growth and Community Service
Founded in 1950, Your Credit Union began as a small cooperative effort among 50 local factory workers who shared a vision of financial empowerment and mutual support. In the post-war economic boom, these founding members recognized the need for a financial institution that would serve the working class, providing fair loans and encouraging savings.
Our first office was a modest room in the back of the factory where our founders worked. With limited resources but boundless determination, the credit union's early years were marked by volunteer efforts and a strong sense of community. Members would often spend their evenings managing accounts, processing loan applications, and helping their colleagues understand the benefits of credit union membership.
By 1960, Your Credit Union had grown to serve over 1,000 members and had expanded to include employees from several local businesses. This growth allowed us to move into our first dedicated office space, a small storefront in the heart of downtown. It was during this decade that we introduced our first savings accounts and began offering auto loans, helping many families achieve the dream of car ownership.
The 1970s brought significant changes and challenges. As the local economy faced the oil crisis and inflation, Your Credit Union stood strong, providing financial education and support to our members. In 1975, we opened our first branch office, expanding our reach to the growing suburban areas. This decade also saw the introduction of our first mortgage products, helping countless families achieve homeownership.
Technological Advancements
The 1980s and 1990s were decades of technological advancement for Your Credit Union. We introduced our first ATM in 1985, and by 1995, we had launched our first website, bringing the credit union into the digital age. In 1990, we proudly introduced our online banking services, one of the first credit unions in the state to do so.
As we entered the new millennium, Your Credit Union continued to grow and adapt. In 2005, we expanded our charter to serve the entire county, recognizing the need for accessible, community-focused financial services in our region. This expansion allowed us to open three new branches and introduce a range of new products and services, including business accounts and investment services.
The 2008 financial crisis tested our resilience, but our conservative lending practices and strong community ties helped us weather the storm. While many banks faltered, Your Credit Union remained stable and continued to support our members through these challenging times.
Community Giveback Program
In 2015, we celebrated our 65th anniversary by launching a community giveback program, pledging to donate a percentage of our annual profits to local charities and educational initiatives. This program has since supported dozens of local organizations and provided scholarships to hundreds of students.
2020 marked both our 70th anniversary and one of the most challenging years in recent history due to the global pandemic. We quickly adapted, enhancing our digital services and providing special assistance programs to members affected by the economic downturn. Our mobile banking app, launched in this year, has become an essential tool for our members, allowing them to manage their finances safely and conveniently.
Today, Your Credit Union serves over 50,000 members, with assets exceeding $500 million. We operate five branches across the county, employ over 200 local residents, and offer a full range of financial products and services. Despite our growth, we remain true to our founding principles of member service, financial education, and community support.
Looking to the Future
As we look to the future, Your Credit Union is committed to embracing new technologies, expanding our sustainable banking practices, and continuing to be a pillar of support for our community. Our history is a testament to the power of cooperation and the enduring value of putting people before profits. We're proud of our past and excited for the future as we continue to grow and serve our members for generations to come.
